The ROC3-DCMxx are dispersion compensation modules that are often required in EDFA/DWDM long haul transport applications. By using a specific type of fiber, engineered to provide negative dispersion effect, a relative short spool of such fiber can significantly reduce the common G.652 SMF dispersion, which has approximately 17ps/nm*km at C-Band wavelengths. In a fiber run exceeding 80Km, dispersion becomes too large for the optical signal to be properly received and thus such compensation modules are required.
DCM modules add some loss to the optical signal but significantly reduce dispersion. We do offer DCM40 and DCM80 as modules that provide compensation for 40Km or 80Km of common G.652 fiber runs. There are also modules available (on demand) for 20Km and 60Km distance compensation. ROC3-DCM cards are essential components of an EDFA/DWDM deployment. ROC3-DCM cards occupy 2 slots in the ROC3 platform chassis and have various compensation values depending on the amount of dispersion requiring compensation.
The ROC3-DCMxx cards fit into any of the ROC3 chassis: either ROC-CH04, ROC-CH08 or ROC-CH16 model. There are many other optical cards for the ROC3 platform, all can be managed via ROC3-NMC card. Among the optical cards available for ROC3 platform we can find transponders for 100G, 25G, 10G and even lower speeds such as Gigabit or Fast Ethernet, CWDM mux demux cards, EDFA amplifier cards or optical 1:1 protection cards. Many other function cards, such as Optical Switches, Variable Attenuators or FWDM cards are also available for the ROC3 chassis. Platform is dimensioned for 19" rack mounting and has 23" rack adapting brackets available on demand. The ROC3 chassis series provide redundant power supply system with "hot swap" feature, for continuous operation. The ROC3-DCMxx cards are hot-swappable and cascadable.
