SFP Gigabit modules, special single strand BiDi(WDM) 1310/1490nm

The newest SFP series of 1.25G single strand optical modules designed to run over Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks are now available to customers.

The SFS-7010-WC and SFS-7010-WD are using 1310nm and 1490nm wavelengths, leaving the 1550nm lambda free for the HFC unidirectional signal. This technology allows usage of the existing hybrid fiber network to also transmit Gigabit Ethernet data. While the 1550nm is occupied by the television network signal, the new SFP's use a safe window channel on 60nm to provide Gigabit Ethernet data communications over same single strand of fiber. The technology of these SFP's is similar to the traditional 1310/1550nm WDM single strand modules, but the 1550nm wavelength has been replaced with 1490nm.

Using existing scarce resources of HFC fiber networks to carry Gigabit Ethernet close to the curb or subscriber is a key element in boosting network capacity and network access at a fraction of the cost. On severely tight networks, having the choice to reuse a fiber for multiple services can be the way to successfully redesign and operate the network and provide wider and higher quality data access services.

To implement 1310/1490nm Gigabit communication over a single strand 1550nm light fiber, a passive splitter/injector device must be used.

SFP's or miniGBIC modules are extremely versatile, working with any active equipment that support the SFP type of interface: Ethernet switches, routers and any other networking equipment. Our SFPs have been tested and found 100% compatible with various Ethernet switches from major manufacturers like: Cisco, Nortel, Extreme, ZyXEL, D-Link or Netgear.
